Network of Progressive Young Regional and Local Leaders

Your heart beats for progressive values, your mind thinks European and you are engaged in politics in your town, city or region? Then you are in the right place! 

More than one million local and regional politicians are shaping Europe every day on the ground, many of whom belong to progressive political parties. From Barcelona to Vienna, from Athens to Stockholm, from Navarra to Riga, progressive politicians are leading the fight for a more social, inclusive and sustainable Europe where no one is left behind. 

The PES Group network wants to bring together the young generation of mayors, local councillors and regional politicians to make their voice heard in the European debate, to connect them with the local and regional politicians who are members of the PES Group and other progressive leaders from all over Europe, and to build together new ideas for a more social and sustainable future.

Young Elected Politicians Programme

The Young Elected Politicians (YEP) Programme is a unique initiative by the European Committee of the Regions that connects, empowers and amplifies the voices of young local and regional politicians from across the European Union and candidate countries. 

The programme runs annually from June to May. The next application round opens in early 2026 so mark your calendars and don’t miss your chance to apply! 

As a Young Elected Politicians, you will: 

  • Take part in high-level events in Brussels and collaborate with members of the European Committee of the Regions; 
  • Take the floor in plenary sessions and commissions’ meetings to bring your voice to the political debates; 
  • Get specialist training in leadership, communication, and EU policymaking; 
  • Help shape EU policies that affect your community; 
  • Connect with fellow young politicians from across Europe; Amplify your work and become an ambassador for progressive change. 

#ProgressivesSpeakUp School for Young Leaders 

Each year, the PES Group organises a school for progressive young local leaders, a two-day event focusing on key challenges facing the European Union and its regions.
